SHIRODHARA
Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic treatment that targets the third eye/root of the nervous system, to clear the mind of excess energy and excess Vata dosha. Ayurveda is a magnificent and ancient system of holistic healthcare from India, that has been practiced for over 5,000 years, inspiring TCM and other holistic health modalities.
During the treatment, warm, herbal oil is streamed directly onto the forehead from a copper vessel hanging above. The receiver lies on the massage table with their hair loose so the oil may spread over the scalp and hair for deep nourishment.
This focused stream of oil causes the central nervous system to relax, and the oil binds to the excess energy and thought forms plaguing the mind, pulling them to the surface. Following receiving this treatment, insights in dreams are very common. The oil allows for soothing exploration of the darker corners of one’s mind.
It produces a deep state of relaxation, a relaxed state of awareness and psycho-somatic balance, yielding full body relaxation and mental clarity.
Traditionally, this treatment is received as one of five treatments in the Ayurvedic detoxification protocol, Panchakarma. Indications for this treatment include insomnia, anxiety, stress, fatigue, tension, worry, fear, headaches, depression and hypertension.
Benefits from receiving Shirodhara include improved memory, cognition, focus, mood regulation, increased relaxation and pleasure, all while nourishing the hair and scalp (with the herbs helping with hair loss and stimulating hair growth).
